November 6 Player Analysis: Kaprizov’s Four Points and Power’s Three Assists
Friday’s three-game slate belonged to Kirill Kaprizov, Quinn Hughes, Owen Power, J. Norris, Macklin Celebrini and Mikael Granlund. The rest of this is how those three finals played out, and every player with a point is listed underneath.
Kirill Kaprizov owned the night in a Minnesota 4 to 1 win over San Jose: a goal on the power play and three assists in 19:28. Quinn Hughes ran the second engine. He is a defenseman, and he finished with a goal, two assists and 31:00 of ice time. Zach Bogosian scored from the point and J. Brodin added an assist, which is five Wild points from the back end.
Macklin Celebrini did the work alone on the other bench. His goal, with a hand from W. Smith and Dmitri Orlov, was everything San Jose produced from 24 shots, and he fired six of them himself. M. Shabanov’s power play goal for Minnesota came with him on the ice at minus one, a small reminder that the final score flattered the evening more than the play did.
Buffalo won 5 to 2 on 37 shots to 26, and Owen Power made the blue line look like a passing lane: three assists, plus three, 20:20 worked. J. Norris scored twice in 13:03. J. Quinn had a goal and an assist, J. Doan and Rasmus Dahlin added one apiece, and the scoring spread so thin that 10 of the game’s 15 point-getters wore blue and gold.
Columbus answered through K. Johnson, a goal and an assist, and Zach Werenski on the power play. Werenski worked 24:38 and still finished minus two, the tidy summary of a night where the Blue Jackets’ best defenseman scored and lost the game anyway.
Then Calgary, and the names behind the result. Five different Ducks scored: L. Carlsson, N. Nesterenko, J. Malott, C. Gauthier and T. Luneau. Carlsson was the only one of that group with a second point, an assist on the man advantage. B. Sennecke and Mikael Granlund collected two assists each, and J. LaCombe played 30:04, an enormous shift log, and finished plus three. Calgary’s production came from unfamiliar places: defenseman J. Hanley scored, W. Stromgren scored, J. Farabee added a power play goal, and M. Frost and defenseman Z. Parekh took two assists each. Forty players finished with a point across the three games. Only Norris scored twice, only Kaprizov reached four, and three defensemen, Power, Hughes and Parekh, cleared two points.
